Robert Furlong named Vice President, General Manager of WRGB-TV

IRVINE, Calif.—Jan. 20, 2004—Robert (Bob) Furlong has been named Vice President and General Manager of WRGB-TV in Albany, N.Y. Furlong replaces Tom Long, who moved to Freedom station, WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids, Mich. as Vice President and General Manager.

“I am very happy that Bob has decided to join Freedom Broadcasting,” said Broadcast Division President Doreen Wade. “He will be an excellent addition to the team. His vast broadcast experience and management skills will be a perfect fit for WRGB and the fine team of associates there.”

Furlong moves to WRGB from KPHO in Phoenix, Ariz. Furlong started his broadcast career in local sales at WTCN-TV in Minneapolis in 1976. His first senior management job was as a General Sales Manager at WCIX-TV in Miami, Fla. Furlong has also managed stations in Milwaukee, Wis., Salt Lake City, Utah and Phoenix, Ariz.

I look forward to working with the successful team of associates at WRGB and living in a beautiful part of New York state.” Furlong also holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Phoenix as well as a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from Shippensburg University. He is known for playing a very active role in the communities where he has lived and worked. Bob and his wife Cindy have three children.

WRGB, channel 6, is an award-winning television station, founded in 1928 and acquired by Freedom Communications in 1986.
