Philosophy:
The Gazette and gazette.com are the primary information
and advertising sources for our area. We provide
a full-service newspaper with local, state, national
and international coverage.
Awards:
Finalist, Pulitzer Prize for local reporting, 2010 (won for feature writing in 1990); Numerous
awards for Colorado Press Association, Colorado Associated
Press Editors and Reporters.
THE COMMUNITY
Location:
At the foot of Pikes Peak, serving El Paso and Teller
counties, an hour south of Denver on Interstate 25;
40 minutes north of Pueblo on Interstate 25.
Market:
Colorado Springs is a young, relatively affluent outdoors-oriented
high tech market. The area’s chief economic
drivers are the military, tourism, and information
and technology. It also is a major center for
amateur sports, and home of the U.S. Olympic Training
Center.
Things to do:
We sit at the base of “American’s Mountain,” Pikes
Peak. Because of our location, opportunities
abound for hiking and mountain biking. Some of
the best skiing in the world is approximately 100 miles
away. Although we’re only 70 miles south
of Denver, snowfall is minimal. It’s not
uncommon to have winter days in the 60s.
